THE LEGEND OF THE WHITE SNAKE The Foshan Cantonese Opera Troupe takes The Legend of TheWhite Snake to the screen. The film adaptation of a classic Cantonese opera that tells the romantic tragedy of the love between a thousand-year-old female snake spirit and a scholar, it combines the aesthetics of modern cinema with traditional Cantonese opera performances. Renowned Hong Kong Cantonese opera actor Law Ka-ying takes the lead role as the scholar, while the female protagonist is played by Li Shuqin, the director of the troupe and a winner of the China Theatre Plum Blossom Award, the highest theatrical award in the country.
