Oversized opals and tantalising tourmalines enticed at Gucci’s latest sumptuous showcase

This past September, private clients and memebers of the media jostled beneath the sunlit ceilings of Hong Kong’s old Police Married Quarters in the hope of getting a glimpse of Gucci’s latest high jewellery and watches. Over the summer, the collection had been presented at exclusive events in Florence and Taipei, and now, at The Qube at PMQ, it was Hong Kong’s turn to admire—and in some instances acquire—these exquisite gems. Gucci’s foray into high jewellery and watches is unprecedented. The house revealed its first collection of about 200 pieces during Paris Haute Couture week in 2019. Peacock-feather-tipped arrows and carved carnelian scarab rings delivered a potent mix of past and present, which it has built on ever since.
