EVERYDAY ICONS Andy Warhol famously elevated the humble Campbell’s soup can to an iconic symbol of pop art in 1962. Titled Campbell’s Soup Cans, His 32 canvases—each featuring a different soup flavour—commented on mass consumption while turning everyday food into high art. BITTERSWEET CRITIQUE In 2014, American artist Kara Walker unveiled A Subtlety, also called Marvelous Sugar Baby, consisting of a giant sugarcoated sculpture of a sphinx-like woman.
