The city’s colossal art fair is back and bigger than ever

THE GLITTERATI OF THE ART WORLD will soon be winging their way to the fourth edition of Art Basel in Hong Kong, where some 239 galleries from 35 countries will be exhibiting a vast array of work by leading and emerging artists. Many of the top international galleries will be in attendance, including Hauser & Wirth, David Zwirner, Gagosian, Sprüth Magers and Lisson. The Encounters section—a collection of large-scale installations—includes Beijing artist Zhang Ding’s 18 Cubes, 18 steel boxes measuring 2.3 metres by 5 metres, each plated with 24-karat gold on which visitors will be encouraged to scratch and scrawl. In Insights, 28 Asia-Pacific galleries will dive into the region’s recent art history.
