TRAVEL Clunk, clunk, clunk goes the Eastern & Oriental Express, a Belmond train, as it cruises along the single-track corridor that is Malaysia’s iconic Jungle Railway. It’s been four years since the forest green, gold-accented carriages stamped with the iconic tiger motif have seen these parts. But she is back on track, lovingly refurbished and with a new route to boot. Beginning and ending in Singapore, the Eastern & Oriental Express traverses some of Malaysia’s lesser-known parts, including Ipoh and the Taman Negara national park. “Malaysia is an up-and-coming destination, with so much to discover,” says Wolfgang Eipeldauer, train manager of Eastern & Oriental Express. “There are some beautiful areas that aren’t so accessible that our passengers can now visit and experience in a five-star way.” On my three-night journey,…
