Though you won’t find human subjects in his images, Kelvin Yuen has one of the most distinctive photographic portfolios in Hong Kong. Long exposure shots of alpine ranges at night; mist cascading over rocks and valleys; vertiginous peaks cloaked in ice; sunlight breaking over a forest of fir trees seemingly untouched by humanity: Yuen’s images capture the natural world at its most awe-inspiring This photograph, taken in Namibia, is one of Yuen’s most memorable. To protect wild animals, national parks are closed to visitors after sunset, so he set up his camera some distance from where he was staying, and left it in time-lapse mode unattended.
