Piyush Gupta, the outgoing CEO of DBS Bank, reflects on 15 years of redefining banking, his championing of social causes and charting the road ahead

Star banker Piyush Gupta has spent the past 15 years transforming DBS Bank into a global powerhouse for digital banking and innovation. As he retires and steps down from the role of CEO on March 28, his unorthodox leadership will leave a lasting legacy. Southeast Asia’s largest bank and the third largest private bank in Asia, DBS was founded in 1968 by the Singapore government. Today, sovereign wealth fund Temasek is the bank’s biggest shareholder. It has been operating in Hong Kong since 1999, when it acquired the first of three local banks, and has grown to become the city’s eighth largest bank by total assets.
