Interior designer Joyce Wang, of her eponymous Hong Kong- and London-based studio, boasts footprints in hospitality projects all over the world, from Mott 32 restaurants in Hong Kong and four other cities to the penthouse of the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in the British capital. She speaks to Tatler about creating spaces that make people happy and finding the courage to say “no”

Describe what you do. We are a small studio, but we do projects globally, and it gives us a global mindset—so that means being able to work with people, clients and fabricators in different parts of the world, and bridge [the gap between] people who wouldn’t normally be connected. Did your upbringing influence your career path? My family is in motor manufacturing; my brother works with my dad.
