Only a handful of athletes can lay claim to the title of world champion in their chosen sport—and the Malaysian former squash player Nicol David has not only done that, but also secured a lasting legacy. David is the first and currently the only Asian woman to have held the world number-one ranking in squash, which she held for 108 consecutive months from 2006 to 2015, a record that remains unbeaten. She has won the World Open Squash Championships title eight times and the British Open Squash Championships title five times, and was the first female player to twice emerge victorious in the World Junior Squash Championships.
