Photographing dance requires an instinct for capturing dynamic shapes and forms in a static format. Hong Kong-based photographer Au Tze-long travelled to Hungary last September to capture a series of photographs of a pair of dancers, Emese Kovács and Lukács Gergő, in Torula Művésztér, an art space redeveloped out of an abandoned wine factory in the northwestern city of Győr. During the shoot and dance performance, musicians played the gong and flutes, and Cantonese poetry by Hong Kong poet Sin Long was read to enhance the atmosphere and inspire the participants. The resulting exhibition, Our Home Place, which Au describes as a “community art project”, combined drawing, collage, costume, dance, film and music based on a series of workshops by Hungarian multidisciplinary art collective, the Ziggurat Project. “Our Home Place examines the…
