1985 On May 22, 1985, Hong Kong won 2-1 against the mainland China team in a World Cup qualifier match at the Hong Kong Stadium—a moment that remains one of the most stunning victories for local football. The goals were scored by wingback Cheung Chi Tak, who was affectionately nicknamed “Little Devil”; and Ku Kam Fai, who is now the head coach of the South China team and lauded as one of the best defenders and sweepers in Hong Kong football history. 1989 The Lunar New Year Cup in 1989 saw Hong Kong face off against the mighty Brazil.
