The ninth edition of the Hong Kong Ballet Guild’s annual holiday fundraiser, the Nutcracker Christmas Benefit, drew a crowd of more than 360 to the Island Shangri-La. Guests at the afternoon event, whose organising committee was co-chaired by Connie Wei-Yang and Liana Yeung, enjoyed a delicious meal and a range of Christmas-themed activities. But the high point was the performance of an extract from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker by 42 children. Silent and live auctions featured much sought-after lots, including an onstage role for a child in a 2018 Hong Kong Ballet production, a tailor-made child’s costume from The Nutcracker, Alice in Wonderland or Carnival created by the company’s wardrobe team, and a private ballet lesson with a company dancer.
