Toast of Tuscany

Saffredi is an Italian red that has set the standard for wines on the coast of Tuscany for the past four decades. James Suckling tasted almost every vintage of the wine ever made last summer and found the Bordeaux blend’s best bottles were the most recent releases. 2012 All-in finesse and length, with fabulous ripe fruit and perfumed, floral and berry aromas. Full body and ultra-fine tannins that caress your palate. Long and beautiful. A perfect wine. Drink it now as it’s gorgeous! 100 points 2013 Another great Saffredi after the perfect 100-point 2012. I tasted it a year ago and thought it sensational. Even better now. Dense and structured yet shows a lively, jazz-like vibe that gives it form and beauty. Needs four to five years to soften. Cabernet sauvignon, merlot and petit verdot. 98 points 2011 A powerful and ripe red with lots of dried berry, chocolate, meat and currant character. Full body, chewy and ripe tannins, and a tight and tannic finish. Needs a few years to soften. Shows the heat of the vintage. Better in 2018. 97 points 2004 This…
