For the inaugural exhibition at the new Gallery 27, designer Alan Chan and actor Karena Lam donned their artists’ hats to collaborate on a new type of shan shui and reflect on the art of life

“I am someone who doesn’t sit still,” says Alan Chan, who, until the last minute of his photo shoot with Tatler at his studio in Quarry Bay in October, was still adding porcelain pieces to the set—until actor Karena Lam, who was also on set, urged him to stop with a laugh. This statement makes sense coming from a Hong Kong designer whose five-decade advertising and design career earned him 600 international design awards before he branched out into visual art in 2000.
