Hitting a High Note

One of the greatest tenors currently performing, Jonas Kaufmann spoke to Tatler during his recent Asia tour about the future of opera

German Austrian tenor Jonas Kaufman has sung pretty much every important operatic role—more than 70 and counting—from Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca to an Arthurian knight in Wagner’s Parsifal, and from productions across periods and cultures. He has received a slew of awards for his work, from GQ’s Man of the Year in 2009, the Bavarian Maximilian Order for Science and Art, and various Singer of the Year gongs to last year’s Ordre de la Légion d’Honneur, one of France’s highest honours, for his contribution to furthering the arts in France and throughout the world.
