U IS FOR: UNCLE RAY

Twenty years ago, Kosala Gunasinghe was working late at his advertising agency office when his colleague turned on the radio. It was Hong Kong broadcaster, actor and DJ Ray Cordeiro, professionally known as Uncle Ray, on RTHK Radio 3. It was the first time Gunasinghe had heard that soothing voice, and it remains the artist’s fondest memory of Uncle Ray. Instead of focusing on the DJ’s voice, however, Gunasinghe, who loves capturing “the complexity and continuous changes in mood” on human faces, pays tribute to his iconic image: his goatee and the flat cap.…
