Why is A Lange & Söhne so revered and coveted today? The answer is quite simple: a relentless pursuit of perfection. This unwavering commitment has been at the heart of the brand for 179 years, ever since Ferdinand A Lange founded the company in Glashütte, where the manufacture continues to thrive. Ferdinand A Lange is credited with introducing watchmaking to Glashütte, rescuing the remote mining town from poverty as its ore reserves dwindled. He trained 15 watchmakers and encouraged them to establish their own companies, transforming Glashütte into the epicentre of German watchmaking in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Ferdinand, and later his son Richard, grew the company into a preeminent watchmaker, crafting elaborate pocket watches and securing numerous patents.
