The rugged, mountain scenery of Glencoe is sure to linger long in the memories of visitors taking in one of the most dramatic places in the Scottish Highlands. Known to film audiences across the globe from scenes in movies including Harry Potter, Braveheart and Skyfall, Glencoe’s famous landscape was formed over millions of years by volcanos and glaciers. Many locals say spooky happenings are part of everyday life beneath the looming mountains, often called the ‘Weeping Glen’, because one of the darkest events in Scottish history took place there. In the early 1690s, Highland clans loyal to the deposed King James were ordered to sign an oath of allegiance to King William.
