Sifting through the dirt in the garden, my eyes lit up in amazement. From the ground, I lifted out a tiny signet ring. ‘Look what I found, Daddy,’ I said showing my dad, Thomas, my treasure. ‘It belonged to a lady called Elizabeth.’ ‘How do you know that?’ he said. ‘Well,’ I replied. ‘It was her ring!’ Aged five, I’d discovered I had a gift called psychometry, where I could recall thoughts and feelings associated with people’s objects. However, my sceptic dad didn’t quite share my enthusiasm. We lived in a two-bed terrace in Raynes Park, London, and it was there I’d first encountered the paranormal. The house was odd.
