Clicking open Facebook Marketplace, I once again found myself staring at the painting I'd stumbled across a few days before. I couldn't get it out of my mind, and something kept drawing me back to it. It was named Coastal Reflections, painted by the bohemian artist Sven Berlin in 1971. The intensity of the colours were so powerful that I knew I had to have it. At £200, it was a bargain for a piece of original art, but at 8×2ft, I imagined my husband Steve saying it was far too big. Tentatively, I asked Steve for his opinion. ‘It's definitely got something,’ he agreed. Delighted, I purchased it from the dealer, who lived in the next village over from us in Newton Abbot, Devon.
