STAR letter Magpie magic My dad loved nature and bird watching. I looked after him during his final days and noticed a distinctive magpie that visited his garden every day. It was clearly an old bird, bedraggled-looking and blind in one eye. I'd say, ‘Here's your mate, Dad!’, making him laugh.
