Walking down the aisle, I caught my gran Margaret’s eye and smiled. I had countless precious memories of her – from devouring her famous Scottish shortbread to watching in awe as she played the church organ. Gran was a huge support and in her gentle, Scottish accent, she’d tell me, ‘Everything happens for a reason, love’, whenever life dealt me a blow. Then, in her 70s, my beloved gran was diagnosed with cancer and slipped away. I was heartbroken, but knowing she wasn’t in pain any more was a sliver of comfort.
