The .22 Long Rifle (LR) cartridge has been the absolute staple product for training marksmen, informal shooting and the common denominator for shooters worldwide for more than 120 years—even longer when you include its predecessor, the .22 Short, which was first used in 1857. The .22 rimfire ammunition was developed and made by the American Union Metallic Cartridge Company, and because of its effective ballistics, low cost and gently felt recoil, it is one of the few cartridges that has been chambered for both rifles and pistols.
