In October 2021, cinematographer Halyan Hutchins was shot and killed on the set of the movie “Rust.” Actor Alec Baldwin, who fired the deadly shot, had maintained he thought he was handed a “cold gun”—as in a gun holding no rounds. Instead, and quite tragically, he was handed a revolver with a live round in the chamber. During a rehearsal—one that wasn’t supposed to involve any firing of the gun, empty or otherwise—Baldwin raised the revolver and pulled the trigger, although he later claimed he didn’t. The actor called it a tragic accident, but armorer Bill Davis doesn’t agree in the least.
“That was no accident, and there was nothing accidental about it,” Davis explained bluntly. “It was complete negligence on the part of everyone involved.”
