We all paddle, slide, get rinsed. In all the ways that matter, the fundamentals of riding waves pretty much stay the same across time and place. But it’s tough to ignore that surf culture is changing. The lineup looks different than just 10 or 15 years ago. The industry is catching up, or flailing. TBD. Right of centre, the new crop of competitive female surfers has risen with nearly normalised support from brands, the industry and media. A foundation of financial and community backing allows them to stretch personal and performance boundaries. It’s an exciting time.
