In the millennial heyday of surf magazines, there were two types of surf magazine editor; those who were everywhere and those you never saw. The Everywhere Editor embraced the rarified status of the role and the largesse of surfing at the time. He (always he) was a player and would turn up to any gig or free trip. He created his own weather and his own agendas on a stuffy little planet of surf. He had a bigger profile than many of the surfers he was covering. The Nowhere Editor meanwhile was a more classical rendering; a guy who realised his role, at its core, was to make the publication – and the surfers featured within – shine through his efforts.
