Modest finances meant Laura had to compromise on her dream kitchen, but thinking creatively helped her achieve the look for less

The kitchen had been a sore spot for me since we moved in five years ago,’ says Laura. ‘It had an Artex ceiling and a dark, tiled floor which I despised. I’d been desperate to give it an overhaul since day one, but budget – or lack thereof – just wouldn’t allow it. My partner Rory and I had just enough to make a few small, temporary changes to make it that bit more liveable, such as painting the walls and eventually removing the Artex, but the big makeover was put on hold until we could comfortably afford to make the entire space ours.
