IL PADRE DEI TURCHI

NEL 1934 il parlamento turco sperimentò una nuova riforma modernizzatrice: l’adozione dei cognomi. Fino ad allora i turchi utilizzavano quasi esclusivamente il nome di battesimo, aggiungendovi a volte quello del padre. Lo stesso Kemal si chiamava Ali Riza oglu Mustafa, cioè Mustafa, figlio di Ali Riza; Kemal era un soprannome che gli avevano dato alla scuola militare per distinguerlo dagli altri Mustafa. La nuova legge gli permise di sostituire il suo nome originale con Kemal e di adottare il cognome Atatürk, “padre dei turchi”. Alla sua morte sarebbe stato onorato con questo nome sugli innumerevoli monumenti sparsi in tutto il Paese.…
