QUANDO LE CARTE ERANO VIETATE

NEGLI ANNI TRENTA del XVII secolo il Giappone si chiuse su sé stesso: nel Paese del Sol levante i costumi introdotti dagli stranieri vennero messi al bando. Così successe anche con le carte, introdotte dai portoghesi nel secolo precedente, e che avevano ormai conquistato i giapponesi. A quel punto, per sfuggire alla censura divennero piccolissime. Con il passare del tempo nacque l’hanafuda, un mazzo in cui le carte rappresentano i dodici mesi dell'anno e ciascuno di essi è associato a un fiore. In questo modo si cercò anche graficamente di differenziare le carte giapponesi da quelle occidentali, in un tentativo di mantenere viva la simbologia nazionale. Le hanafuda, ovvero le “carte dei fiori”, furono legalizzate solo nel 1886.…
