Moving Forward “Basics, Part II” (Season 3, Episode 1) picks up where the previous season leaves off. With assistance from Lon Suder and the Talaxians, Captain Janeway wrestles command of U.S.S. Voyager back from Maje Culluh and puts an end to the Kazon as a recurring threat to the ship. The Doctor notes that Seska’s baby is actually Culluh’s son, and the Cardassian spy ultimately perishes after the battle. With the exception of a handful of future appearances by the Kazon, the episode allows Voyager to set sail into uncharted regions by tying up the Seska arc that permeates the show’s first two seasons.
