Star Trek has been a constant throughout my life for the past fifty years, but when I watched Jim Kirk getting rather anxious about being beamed off the U.S.S. Constellation – which, together with the opening of Return of the Archons, is my earliest memory of the series – how could I have guessed what the future would hold?
