The government lends a helping hand

The South African National Council for the Blind (SANCB) welcomes President Cyril Ramaphosa’s 2025 State of the Nation Address (Sona) as a significant step forward in addressing disability rights, inclusive education, and the socio-economic challenges faced by persons with disabilities, including blind and partially sighted individuals. The President’s commitment to equality and human dignity was evident in his reaffirmation that South Africa stands for equal rights for all, including persons with disabilities. We particularly commend the emphasis placed on economic empowerment. The establishment of a R20 billion annual Transformation Fund dedicated to supporting black-owned businesses and small enterprises – including those led by persons with disabilities – holds great promise in advancing economic inclusion.
