The Black Business Council (BBC) has welcomed the publishing of the long-awaited R100 billion Draft Transformation Fund concept document to boost black-owned business, saying it is a long-overdue step to financially support the black empowerment policy.
It was published on Wednesday by Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Parks Tau, and is open for public comment from March 20 to May 7.
Responding to the invitation by the Department of Trade and Industry (Dtic) for feedback on the Draft Transformation Fund concept document, BBC CEO Kganti Matabane said the funding has historically been a critical gap in the transformation agenda. He noted that even under the Apartheid government, financial mechanisms existed through institutions like the Allied Bank and Trusts to support specific economic goals.
