Fake cremations as hundreds of families are scammed

The funeral undertaker accused of producing fake or fraudulent cremation certificates and burying people as paupers instead of being cremated is believed to have scammed hundreds of families in Cape Town with policies they have been paying for, for years including that of leaving unclaimed bodies in the morgue. Petrus Booysen of St Francis Funeral Services in Kraaifontein made his second appearance at the Kuils River Magistrates’ Court on Friday, where he came face to face with the devastated families he is believed to have scammed. Booysen, who was dressed neatly in a suit, is facing ten charges of fraud relating to the burial of victims.
