As expected, Lando Norris of McLaren won the season-opening Australian GP, putting down an early marker for the year to come.
There was much speculation during pre-season as to whether McLaren would translate their early advantage into victory, and in a mature and measured performance, that is exactly what Norris did. The Briton led from pole to podium, surviving a chaotic race touched heavily by the weather. It saw several drivers lose control and spin out of the race. Norris, too, had a spill in the closing stages of the race, which nearly derailed his race but with a bit of luck, and timing, he managed to retake the lead. Despite teammate Oscar Piastri finishing ninth, he was well in contention until the latter stages of the event in Melbourne.…
