President Cyril Ramaphosa went hammer and tong for the Gauteng provincial government and the Johannesburg City Council when he paid an oversight visit to Johannesburg.
He couldn’t believe what he saw. The once glittering city of gold had sunk into an appalling state of disrepair and decay.
Yet he drives through Johannesburg so often to attend meetings at Luthuli House. No, he doesn’t drive. He is chauffeur-driven. It’s possible that when the blue-light brigade is whizzing through the streets of Johannesburg, he does not see the once bustling city falling apart, with many buildings hijacked by people desperate for accommodation.
