Deepwater Horizon Stars Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, Kate Hudson Story In 2010, an oil-drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico called the Deepwater Horizon exploded, causing one of the worst environmental disasters in history. This film by Peter Berg (Lone Survivor) tells the story of two crew chiefs, played by Wahlberg and Russell, who arrive on the offshore rig for their three-week shifts, only to discover that oil company BP has ignored safety procedures in order to cut costs. The first half of the film has lots of concerned talk about worst-case scenarios, and the second half shows those calculations coming true, as Wahlberg and Russell try to get their crew off the sinking platform and into lifeboats.
