Six years have passed since Gibraltar issued the ‘world’s first crypto currency stamps’ on 15 May 2018 and then anther in 2021 (Figure 1). In consequence, a rising number of postal administrations have followed this trend, including Austria (Figure 2), Croatia, Faroe Islands, France, Germany, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland (Figure 3) and the United Nations.
The reception in collector circles still seems rather divided. While some embrace this futuristic aspect of philately, others refuse the combination of stamps with digital ‘twin’ and elevated values. In many examples, they are not practical for postal use, some shaped in credit-card format and printed on plastic foils.
