March saw another small flurry of heads submitted to be measured. Included among them were J Allan’s Sussex sika and D Irvine’s roebuck from Perthshire, which were both awarded silver medals. However, the one that really grabs the eye is the monster platinum-medal muntjac, which was found dead by an anonymous stalker in Hampshire. Measuring 78 points, it really is an impressive specimen and the pictures don’t do justice to how remarkable this head is. Making it all the more special is the fact that this is the largest muntjac we have measured from Hampshire. Looking back through the records, there are several instances of seriously large deer being found dead, be it from old age or road collisions, which is an interesting thought.
