Song Dingbo and the Hungry Ghost

ONCE UPON A time, a boy named Song Dingbo set out from the village of Nanyang to visit the town of Wan. Along the way, he encountered a hungry ghost. “Say your prayers, mortal. I am going to eat you!” the ghost howled. Song Dingbo was terribly frightened, but he kept his wits and said, “You’re mistaken. I’m no mortal. I’m a ghost like you.” “You don’t look like a ghost to me.” “That’s because I’ve only been a ghost for three days,” Song Dingbo said. “I’ll probably look more like you when I’m older.” “Where are you going now?” the ghost asked. “I’m going to Wan.
