A parol, which means lantern in Tagalog, is a star that usually has five points. It is traditionally made from bamboo and paper. There are lights around or inside the star. Historically, the star symbolizes lighting the way for the three wise men to find their way to Bethlehem. Today, the lantern is a symbol of faith as it lights the way for others. During the festive season, parols are hung in front of homes, schools, shopping centers, and public spaces. Nowadays, parols come in all shapes and sizes.
