“WE HAVE A real treat for you this year, darlings!” Mrs. Pinkley announced to her children, Doodlebug and Dandelion. Mr. Pinkley looked up from the fire he was stoking in their Lake Tattoo winter cabin. “Yes, we’ve got quite a surprise coming!” he said, chuckling mysteriously. “What surprise?” Dandelion asked suspiciously. She pulled nervously on the earflaps of her knitted cap. Her hair was in a funky growing-out stage after last month’s major cut, so she often wore a hat, even indoors. “No more snow maze building!” Doodlebug protested, remembering a past Lake Tattoo adventure. “Heavens no!” Mrs. Pinkley joined her husband by the fire and placed her hand on his shoulder. “Well, you know your father and I met up here at the lake.
