“IS GRANNY A witch?” Doodlebug Pinkley quietly asked his parents. His sister, Dandelion, giggled. “Of course, Granny’s not a witch!” Mrs. Pinkley grinned. “She’s my mum!” They were all gathered in the backyard of Tomiko Tanji, Dandelion’s best friend. The backyard was designed as a beautiful Japanese garden. A bonfire blazed in the fire pit, keeping off the night’s chill. It promised to be a special New Year’s Eve. Not only had Granny come to visit from a very long way away, but Tomiko and her dad were planning to “unveil” a new garden element. It was hidden under a tarp, which Granny was inspecting with great curiosity.
