A NEW HAIRDO CAN make someone look like a completely different person. It’s Sarah Hatten’s job to use hair to make people look older, younger, meaner, sweeter, wiser, sillier, neater, or messier. She can even use her skills to get thousands of audience members to feel like they’ve traveled through time or to an imaginary world. Sarah is the wigmaster at Lyric Opera of Chicago.  That means she’s on top of what goes on top of heads. A wigmaster works with a costume designer to decide what hairstyle and facial hair is best for each character in an opera, play, movie, or TV show.
