Not Without Problems: The View of One University Instructor
One of the reasons that teaching scuba classes over the past 10 years has remained exciting to me is the variety of locations and circumstances in which they can be held: dive shops, military installations, recreation centers, and credit courses at a university. All pose their own unique challenges. This article shares some of my observations on university scuba courses. There is a wide variety of college-level programs. Some offer courses from entry-level through instructor,supported by a full inventory of equipment. I know one school that even subsidizes trips to complete open-water training. Others act as if they are doing instructors a big favor just by allowing them to conduct a basic course. I’ve found that private institutions are generally more supportive of scuba programs than most state universities are.…
