Cuba, officially the Republic of Cuba, is an island country located in the northern Caribbean. It is bounded by the Caribbean Sea (or Mar Caribe) to the south, the Gulf of Mexico to the northwest and the Atlantic Ocean to the northeast. The Cuban archipelago consists of the main island of Cuba, the Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth) and several smaller islands. Havana is the largest city in Cuba and the capital of the country, with Santiago de Cuba being the second-largest city. Cuba’s geographic neighbors include the United States and Bahamas to the north, Mexico to the west, the Cayman Islands and Jamaica to the south, and Haiti to the southeast. Christopher Columbus arrived on the island in 1492 and claimed it for the Kingdom of Spain.…
