Amazingly, Ash have been dealing out punk fever and ace melodies for more than 30 years now. The guitar riffs are memorable and the chorus lines swoon in a classic manner. Their music seems resistant to age and maturity. So it is with 'Race The Night', their first studio album since 'Islands' in 2018 and a stirring reminder of their worth. Even better, the separation of these former school pals during the pandemic has given them a renewed sense of mission. They are determined to rock, passionately. The record is self-produced, a practice that Ash continue to master. It opens with the title track, a power drive that splices the familiar Weezer and Brian Wilson parts with throbbing Europop.
