CURVES, FILTERS & RIPPLES – the ACRO L1000 on the bench

I conducted a few relatively rudimentary objective tests. The first was to determine the output levels the unit is capable of producing at the unbalanced headphone output (I didn’t check the balanced outputs). It was close enough to Astell&Kern’s claimed 6V according to my tests. I measured 6.01V RMS at 100Hz, 5.94V at 1kHz and 5.95V volts at 10kHz. Six volts is well within the error bars around my oscilloscope’s measurements. Into a 295-ohm load, the outputs at all three frequencies were the same. That translates into an output of around 120mW into that load, or some 20.9dB more output than the sensitivity rating of the headphones. That was with the volume set to maximum. Into a 15.9-ohm load the output was clipped. I had to back it off to 2.18 volts…
