“I don’t see 8K being a mass-market product,” said Paul Gray, Director of Research and Analysis at IHS Markit, as we quizzed him over coffee at the IFA Global Press Conference where Sharp had just launched its 8K television (see opposite). “And the reason is that there isn’t a compelling reason in terms of content. Our forecast is for 5.4 million 8K sets shipped in 2022 [see graph], and with the vast majority going to China...
