How does one become a hero? Sometimes it is through extraordinary achievements. Other times it is from an act of heroism. And then, often times, it is because of pure kindness. This month, baritone singer for The PromisedLand Quartet, Aaron Swain, shares how a fellow artist became one of his heroes.

I was always a “weird kid” when it came to music. While my friends were listening to the popular music of the day, I gravitated towards quartets or older music in general. When I was really young, my two favorite groups were The Dillards and The Statler Brothers—both of whom had retired by the time I even knew they existed. But when I was about 13 years old, I heard my first straight-up Gospel quartet that was still an active artist. In 2005, my youth pastor let me borrow his copy of Legacy Five’s Monuments project, which to this day still gets regular play on my devices.
